Welcome to the Ellison School literature blog. Your job will be to post at least one comment each week about what you are reading. You must include the name of the book, pages you read, a summary of what has happened, and thoughts or feelings you have about the story so far. Feel free to ask questions or make predictions. To Kill a Mockingbird
Finished
This book takes place in the southern United States where many people had racisit minds. It is about how two childern, Jem and Scout, who learn how some can be so cruel to others. Both adventure all over their nerigborhood in search of a man in which they had only heard about. Boo Radley. They search anyd try so many risky plans, but never find him. As they see many examples of hard core race, they realize how people in this time really feel about people with a differnt color skin tone.
I feel that this book shows a great example of people's mind cycles. This book was one of the best that I have ever read. I liked how the two young kids tried in their own way to unite everyone in the town. In the end when the kids are attacked and a man specially stabs the attacker, Jem becomes injured. They all think he did it, but the man, Boo Radley did it. He showed that he did not do one think for the town but good. Scout says in the end it would be like shooting a Mocking bird becasue all they do are make sweet sound for us to enjoy.

Ilium pages 1-731.
I read Ilium. In this book, a group of humans on earth develop technology that allows them to create quantum tunnels. these tunnels allow them to go anywhere on earth instantly. however, they accidently allowed the biosphere and the logosphere to fuse into an intelligent noosphere. this self-aware creation caused the post humans to flee earth. the posts then traveled to mars and terraformed it to look just like earth. they created clones of ancient greeks and trojans and used them to recreate the Trojan war, with the post humans as the greek gods. to make sure that the war went the way the Iliad said, the posts brought back scholars of the Iliad. one of the post humans, who takes the place of aphrodite, commissions one of these "scholics" to assassinate the goddess athena. he causes the greeks and trojans to stop their useless fighting tand to go to war against the gods. also in this story are cyborg robots, called "moravecs" who live on the moons of saturn and jupiter. these cyborgs are concerned with the amount of quantum tunneling that has been going on on mars. the logosphere deity, Prospero, plays a key part in the story. he is the one who teaches the 1 million humans how to go to mars and help stop the post humans.
I liked this book so much i couldn't put it down. after i finished it once, i had to got back and read it just for the appeal. this book is a very engaging book by a very intuitive author. i believe this book would appeal a lot to any readers of science fiction. i would recommend this book and author to anyone who ever wondered about life on mars or any conspiracy theorists who think to government has aliens or robots, or that technology will someday rule the world.

Eclipse: 1-200 something
So far in Eclipse, There are a string of young vampires destroying Seattle. Edward, Bella, and The Cullen family are trying to communicate with other vampires to help them take down the new vampires. They become even more serious after they find out someone's been in Bella's room and has taken some of her things. Meanwhile, down at La Push, Bella has been seeing Jacob by Edward's permission. While at La Push she's hearing the stories of how the vampires and the werewolf's made the treaty that prevents them from associating with each other. Jacob admits to Bella he loves her and he kisses her. She then responds by punching his jaw and breaking her hand. Unfortunately, Jacob shows up at her graduation but leaves before they could have talked. Alice, for graduation, throws Bella a huge party at the Cullen house, which she transforms to look like a night club. Also, Bella learns of something called imprinting and finds out that Quil has imprinted on Emily's two-year-old niece, Claire. I'm now somewhere in the 200 range and the Cullens are about to set off to go to Seattle in search of the vampires and as always Bella is pushing to become a vampire.
From what I've read already, Eclipse seems like a really great book. A lot of my friends have read it and they spoiled it for me, but I still want to read it on my own. I feel really bad for Jacob because he loves Bella and the part about how Quil imprinted on a two year old really freaked me out though.

bridge to terribithia
The story brigde to terribithia is about a boy who doesnt have many friends & his parents dont have much money. He sometimes gets bullied by kids in his school. The kids bully them a lot. There was a new girl and she was really friendly to him, the girl just moved right next to him so when they got off the bus they would always hang out together. They found a place near there house that they called terribithia. They eventualy started going there everyday after school.
I really liked this book. The two kids have imagination and thats how the story started. I think they made this land so they could get away from there home. They make an adventure out of this land that isnt really real but they believed in it was so thats what made it real.

This book is all about a girl named rose living in england, who is not really a good kid right now. she steals a lot and lies a lot. Her brother, Indigo had a friend named tom who moved to new york. Tom and rose had become really good friends and it upset her when he moved back. Indigo's new friend, David, is now around all the time and rose thinks that he is trying to take toms place. Rose's sister Caddy is about to get married to Michael but is having second thoughts. To keep caddy from giving the ring back to michael, rose takes it. David finds out and makes rose give the ring back. Rose goes looking for caddy who is on a train to her father's house. She goes on the train to give back the ring when she finds out that she is trapped on the train and is now on her way to her dads house with caddy. her dad is upset by the news because he has to leave for new york the next morning. rose begs her father to take her with him to new york so she can see tom, and at the end he gives in.
I really liked this book because it was like a really good T.V. show series that you just have to keep watching. it kept me interested because of all of the things going on. I wanted to know what would happen with the ring, if rose would get to go to new york, and if caddy would get married after all(which she didn't in this book). Permanent Rose kept me wanting to read more because i can relate sometimes to rose in her attitude ( not the stealing part ). she is really out spoken and says what she is thinking. This book has a lot of excitement and it really makes you want to know how every thing turns out.

Empire Finished It
In this book a military genius named Rube was assighned to find ways to attack the president, So that secret service could block the ways of killing the president. After a couple of months people use his plan to kill the president. When Rube then travels to New York City with his friend and employe Cole to see Ground Zero michenes attack new York City and anybody in uniform. Cole and Rube then safly get every body out of New York killing the giant machines and the peolpe attacking them and the police officers. Then that same group of people who built the Machines and attacked new york anounces they want to seside from the United States of America. The Rube goes to his office in the pentagon and his secretary who he trusts kills him and trys to kill Cole. Then Cole leaves to get Rubes old unit. Cole goes to the White house and trys to find the hideout where the leader of the group builds his machines. When Cole finds it he gets Rubes old teem and the enter the Groups base where they Find the leader and capture him.
I enngiod this book because it was all about stratigy. They had to stratigize to get the leader and to get out of New York. I also liked the Book because it was talking about peoples minds. Through out the book Orson Scout Card the author talks about the the madness behind people.

The Lightning Thief Finished
The Lightning Thief is about a kid named Percy who is a demigod. A demigod is a child of a Greek god. Many children are kids of minor gods. What makes percy interesting is that he is the son of the sea god, Posiden, one of the Major gods. In this book, percy faces a great challenge. He has to try and stop a civil war between three of the magor gods. Zeus thinks that Percy, son of posiden, stole his lightning bolt. Posiden is mad at Zues for thinking his son stole it, and Hades thinks that percy stole is relm of darkness, which made Posiden mad. In the end, Percy had to straighten things out by fighting the god of war arese who holds the realm of darkness. Percy wins in the end but then realizes that arese was not behind all of this. It was the Titan kronos.
I personally liked this book because it had a lot of twist and turns. I also liked it because it had mythology in it too. It made this world seem like a boring little speck. It took me into a whole nother world of magic, power, and history. The best part was that it actually made sence.
All the people in that book talked like you would expect there character to talk. The leader of the gods, Zeus, talked like he was the supreme overlord of the universe. The characters also had feelings too. Percy had connections with his mother and friends. That is what made this book really fun to read.

This book is about this kid named Mike. He is from cuba and him and his older brother live together in New York now. Mike had a dream of making it the the little league world series. One day there was a theif that stoll this womans burse and mike threw a ball from home plate and hit him in the head an he was cought. Mike loved playing baseball. He was only 12 years old and he can throw 80 mph. Since that Mike was such a good baseball player he made himself look like he was older then 12 and in his league if u were over 12 you coldn't play. Miike went on starting pitching for his team. But then 1 day one of the coaches from the other team filed a complaint agenst Mike saying he wanted to see a birth surtificate. But Mikes mom and dad where dead so he had mo clue where he could get it so he had to sit for i while. while he was at a game he saw a girl he thought was pretty and beacme good friends with her. That night he found out it was his favovorite player El Grandes doughter. Mike and his brother did everything to get the birth surtificate but they couldn't find it. So one day when mike was watching his team play he saw El Grande, his daughter, Mikes brother, and the woman that took care of Mike and his brother. He found out that he was allowed to play. his team was then allowed to play in the champion ship game at rigle field. That day Ellie and El Grande took him and his team to the locker room and then they had the big game.
I like this book a lot but there was one thing that i didn't like about it. The one thing is that i didn't like the ending. i would of liked to known what happend in the game? or what happened later in his life? I Thought that it was one of the best books that I have ever read in my life. I like this book a lot because I love baseball and it was a book that never got boring.

Harry Potter Goblet of Fire Finished
This book is about a fourteen boy named Harry Potter who's parents are killed by lord Voldomort when he was a baby. Voldomort cannot kill Harry and a scar of a lightning bolt is left on Harry's head. Voldomoert cannot kill Harry becuase of a curse. When Harry was a baby he was sent to his uncles house (the only family he has.)The family is very mean. By this book Harry Potter has been going to a magic school for four years. When Harry comes back to hogwarts his scar begins to hurt and has bad dreams. He writes to Sirus Black and tells him what had happend. At the Quidditch Cup some weird things are happening. The sky turns black and harry looses his wand that is found in the hands of Dudly and everyone thinks he took it. But this was the plan of Lord Voldomort. Harry knows that Lord Voldomort is back now.
At the first meal at hogwarts a contest in introduced to everyone. There would be three extremely dangerous contests. Because of this you had to be seventeen or older to enter the contest. The kids had to write there name on a piece of paper and enter it into the goblet of fire. The few people get chosen by the goblet of fire and everyone cheered. After everyone was picked the goblet of fire spat out an extra name. It was Harry Potter. The only problem was Harry didn't enter his name in the Goblet of fire. Ron (Harry's friend) gets mad that harry is getting popular by lying but he doesn't know Harry didn't enter his name. Lord voldomort sent one of his servants to go teach at hogwarts dressing up as an old teacher named muggels and locking him in a vault. Voldomort's servant was the one that put Harry's name in the goblet of fire. At the end of the three tasks the winner would have to touch a portkey to return but muggles set it up so Harry would return to a graveyard with Lord Voldomort and his servants. The first task was getting by a dragon and collecting a golden egg. Harry gets the toughest dragon and barely defeats it getting the egg. The second task is to go under water and rescue his friends. Dudly gives him gilly weed which allows him to breathe under water. harry is last to finish but is rewarded becuase he made sure everyone got out of the water okay. The third task is to complete a dangerous maze. The walls close in on you and the weeds grab your feet and pull you in. Harry works together with another player competing.

I read up to page 20.
This book starts out with the time setting of 1984 and four children accedentially unleash a bloodthirsty monster for in the woods. The four children are now the only things that stand in the way of the monster creating chaos within their town. The attack occurs every seven years and in 1984, they sent the demon back down under. in 2001 it was again the monster came back and one of the boys took a chance and stabbed it with a peice of medal, straight into the heart. The now young adults realized that it could be wounded just as bad as they can. It descended back and ran out of time and is held down in the depts for seven more years. The group thought that they had won, and finally conquered over the beast. After the 2001 attack, the children had stopped paying much attention to the animal and put a hault to their training. Now, in present time, 2008, one of the men that was in the group has a powerful sence, just as he was a child, that could sence when the demon was about to re-enter to this world. He went to see the former group leader and told him, he said that he had gotten a vision, just the same as when he was a child, of the beast comming back but a lot more powerful, they again started to train and recruit their old friends and former group members. The friends had stayed in contact hrough the years, but not as close as they were. They then reached Kayla, the former most powerful asset to their team, a mindreader. She couldn't just read peoples minds, she could also read the demons. She hadn't practiced in years and was rusty. Their leader is now taking time to help her remeber, it is easy for him because the two work in the same building. I paused reading at the end of chapter five at the end of the leader and Kaylas conversation about helping her refresh her mind reading tool.
I like this book so far. It is a fast moving book and keeps you reading and inerested. I cannot wait to finish this book. It sounds geeky but it really isn't, it's totally cool. I read the first 20 or 25 pages and all of this happened. It is very good and it hopefully won't sizzle out.

The second book in the Twilight series, New Moon, is about a girl named Bella Swan. Bella fell in love with a boy named Edward Cullen. As their realtionship went on, Bella and Edward had some hard times because Edward was a varmpire. Everytime Bella and Edward were together, she was risking her life. Edward had to be carful not to kill her everytime they would hug, because he had amazing stregnth. In the end of the first book, the Cullens, Emmet, Rosalie, Alice, Jasper, Carlisle, and Esme, threw Bella a birthday party at there home. Bella tried to convince them not to get her anything, but since the Cullens were serveral hundred years old, they hadn't celebrated a birthday in a wile. At the party while Bella was opening one of her presents she cut her finger. Jasper, being the yougest and most inexperienced vampier, imediatly went after Bella. That's where most of the problems began. In the second book, Edward told Bella that he couldn't stand hurting her anymore, and had to leave with his family. So far in the second book, Bella has been trying to keep her mind off of him by spending time with a long time family friend, Jacob Black. She had promised Edward that she wouldn't do anything recless and stupid, but since he hadn't kept his promise of never leaving her, she thought it was only fair. So, she and Jacob fixed up a pair of motorcylcles and took them up to a dirt road to practice. On her first attempt, Bella ended up face-first in the moss with a huge gash in the forehead and the motorcycle on top of her. Bella didn't mind the wound, because she was a naturally clumsy person. Jacob, on the other hand, wanted to give the bikes a break, and let Bella get better first. Everytime Bella was with Jacob, she forget all about what was going on, and felt much happier with him. But, he was much younger than she was, and new she shouldn't send the wrong message.
The Twilight Series is one of my all time favorites. I was never a fan of books about vampiers and romance, but this book changed my mind. Emdward is one of the most perfect characters in the world. He knew he had to keep his distance, but, let his love for Bella overcome that. Bella never cared that he was a vampire, she never even knew they existed until she met the Cullens. But their unnatural beauty and grace made it impossible not to be curious. Edward was curious too. He was able to read minds, and with Bella, he couldn't. Her sent made it impossible not to stay away. They were inseperable during the few months they were together. But Edward knew that it couldn't go on forever. He knew, eventually, Bella would end up dieing. But vampiers can't. Edward knew, that it would be easier if he walked away from Bella earlier then when she was taken away from him. So you can see that this book is a great read. I can never put it down when i start. I love the way the author, Stephenie Meyer, wrote it. It really feels like you are with Bellam, going through all the emotions of the book with her.

A Jewish kid lived in the time of the Holocaust. He has one sister, a mom and a dad. He was in his house one day and a couple of Nazis were standing in their town. At first, the kid did not think it was going to be that bad. Three days later they were taken on a bus, not knowing where they were headed. The kid describes horrible experiences about the trip over. He tells the reader about not being able to breath. He was in intense heat for three days straight. He talks about one person going insane. She kept screaming "Fire." She would scream that numerous times, but there would be no fire. Every one was becoming delirious people were fighting for no reason. When they got there, the Nazis got them off the bus and separated them into two lines. The kid was split up from his mom and sister. All he had to live for now was his dad because he didn't know what would happen to his others. He describes horrible times at the concentration camp. He would get one ration of bread and soup every day. He longed to be back home. One day a husband with children came to the kid and asked if his kids were alright. The kid didn't know but he wanted to give the husband good news. So the kid said they were fine. That's what mostly all the jews did. They tried to keep other people's spirits high so they could try to fight with a reason to live. The kid talks about roll call and how they took people's names down and they disappeared. Later he would find out they were killed because they were to weak. Everyone's advice was to get through the roll-call without there name not called by the Nazis. So his plan was to run as fast as he could to avoid them getting a chance to look at him. His father did the same. It turned out his fathers name was written down. When he found out he was scared out of his mind. But when they did inspection on him, he was fine and he would not have to die. Throughout the book, you can see his father getting weaker. Winter was coming and that was the hardest part of the concentration camp. The kid's leg got hurt and he couldn't continue his work. He prayed that he would be alright and that he could continue his work. The Russians were about to invade Germany to free the prisoners. The Nazis made the prisoners go deep into Germany so they couldn't be freed. They mad the prisoners run most of the way there. One kid was running next to the main character and he told everyone he can't run anymore. He said his stomach was about to burst and he fell to the ground and died.

This book is the last of the Twilight series. It is about a girl, Bella, who is in love with a vampire, Edward. Recently they had to make a decision of either Bella dying or her and Edward getting married. They sdecide to get married. Their marrige ceremony had all of their friends and family. One person who wasn't there was Bella's best frined Jacob. That night at the wedding, Edward gave a gift to Bella and it was Jacob. She told him that she and Edward will do it at the honeymoon. Jacob got extremely furious and left. After the wedding Edward and Bella went to there honeymoon home that Carlilse (Edward 'dad') suggested.
During there honeymoon, Edward bruises her at night by accident but she doesn't care. Later on, there started to be a change in Bella's appetite. She starts eating a lot and begins to throw up. When she checks her stomach, there is a bump and she discovers that she is pregnant. They go back home. Edward insists on having the baby out of her but she doesnt want to do that. She had dreams during there honeymoon about a baby boy, so she beleives that is her child. Her stomach grows rabidly and she cannot survive because the baby is killing her. Edward asks Jacob to convince Bella on having an abortion and to make a child with someone else like Jacob. Berlla refuses. The only thing that holds her stomach in place is human blood. Bella loves it and so does her child. Edward says that Bella might live if he bites after she has given birth. After she gave birth, Edward did what he said he would do. Two days later Bella had woken up. She was now a vampire. She also had a daughter named Reneesme. She wanted to see her. But before she could. Bella had to go hunting satify her thirst for bood.
Her and Edward go hunting and they come across hitchhikers. To everyones surprise, Bella controls herself and dosen't attak them. Edward told her that there was something important he needed to tell her about their daughter but Jacob should tell him what it is. When they arrived home, she discoverd that Jacob had imprinted on their daughter. She got so furious that attacked him. But missed and hit his wolf friend, Seth. After understanding what Jacob was saying, she calmed down a bit. Everyone noticed that Reneesme was growing rapidly.
While Jacob, Reneesme, and Bella were hunting, a vampire who has a thing against the Cullens family. That vampire, Irina, sees Reneesme and assumes that she is an immortal child. She contacts the Volturi and tells them. And they come there to kill them. Alice and Jasper run away and leave something for Bella. Which is a name to contact a guy who makes certificates, passports, etc. She goes and makes a passport for Jacob and Reneessme to escape for when the Volturi come. They call all of their vampire frinds to be witnesses for Reneesme. When they all arrived they were terrified of her, But when she touched them she gave them her past and showed everybody that she is not an immortal child. All they had to do was make the Volturi stop for only a secon and listen to them. Bella starts practicing with the other vampires. And discovers that she has a sheild that she can protect everybody with. For when the Volturi come.
